Torvan

Getting started for Strategists (parents, carers and other adults)

In Torvan you're the Strategist: a parent, carer, support worker or other adult. You set quests (chores), check the photo proof, approve them, and pay out the coins as real money. The person doing the quests is your Warrior. They can be a child, a teenager or an adult.

Updated for version 1.13.0. Last updated 13 October 2026.

How it works

Step 1: Create your Strategist account

  1. Install Torvan and open it. During our closed test, only invited testers can install it: from Google Play on Android, or through Apple's TestFlight app on iPhone.
  2. On How are you using this?, tap Family / Support Setup.
  3. Tap The Strategist ("Issue quests & verify victories").
  4. Fill in the form:
    • Nickname (shown to friends): up to 24 characters: letters (accented letters too), numbers, spaces and . - ' only. Anything else, such as an @, a web address or a long number, is removed automatically when your account is made, so check how it looks. Don't use your full real name.
    • Year of birth: just the year, never a full date. A Strategist has to be 15 or over, and some things, such as giving a parent's OK, need you to be 18 or over.
    • Email Address, Password and Confirm Password. Passwords need at least 10 characters, with at least one letter and one number. A checklist under the password box ticks off each rule as you type.
  5. Tap Create Account. We email you a 6-digit code. Type it into Verify Your Email and tap Verify. If it hasn't arrived, check your spam folder, then tap Resend Code.
  6. If your phone has a fingerprint or face set up, you're asked Lock Torvan with your fingerprint? (Chore Scape in older versions) Tap Turn on or Not now. You can change this later (see Fingerprint lock).
  7. You'll see Account Linking Required. Leave it open while your Warrior sets up.

Good to know. You can't change your nickname or your year of birth in the app later, so please check them. If one is wrong, email support. If Create Account does nothing, make sure the nickname and email boxes aren't empty.

Strategists don't pick a World when they sign up. Your app takes on the World of whichever Warrior you're looking at, with its colours and names. If you set up My quests, you pick a World for your own quests.

Step 2: Your Warrior creates their account

On your Warrior's phone, open Torvan. Help them through these steps if they need it:

  1. Tap Family / Support Setup, then New Warrior.
  2. Swipe through the Worlds and tap Choose on the one they like. The World sets their colours, the World their card packs come from to start with, and some names. They can change it later.
  3. Fill in the same form: a nickname that isn't their full real name, their year of birth, an email address and a password. If they're under 15, you'll be asked for your OK once you've linked (Step 3).
  4. Type in the 6-digit code from the email and tap Verify.
  5. They'll see Account Linking Required, showing a linking code.

There's a guide for your Warrior too, in simple words: Getting started for Warriors.

Step 3: Link your accounts

  1. On your Account Linking Required screen, find Link to Warrior Account.
  2. Type the code from your Warrior's screen into Enter Code, then tap Request Link. You'll see "Link request sent! Awaiting Warrior approval."
  3. Your Warrior gets a pop-up called Account Link Request, showing your nickname and email. They tap Approve.
  4. Your screen checks every 12 seconds and opens your home screen once the link is made. You also get a "Link approved" notification.

About linking codes.

  • Codes are 10 characters and never use 0, O, 1, I or L, so they're easy to read aloud. Capitals don't matter. Type the code without spaces.
  • A code lasts 24 hours, then a new one appears automatically. A code written down yesterday may not work.
  • Your email must be verified before you can send a link request.
  • You get 10 tries every 15 minutes. A wrong code and an expired code both show "Invalid linking code".

A parent's OK for a Warrior under 15. Once you're linked, the app shows Give your OK for and your Warrior's nickname. It explains what Torvan keeps about them. Tap I'm [their nickname]'s parent or guardian — I agree to let them use photo proof and Friends, or No, keep them off. Their quests work either way, and you can change your mind later in Settings → Account → Privacy & Friends. See A parent's OK.

If your Warrior already has a Strategist (for example, another parent or carer), that Strategist must approve you too. See Adding a second Strategist.

Step 4: Set your first quest

  1. On your home screen, tap Issue Quest.
  2. Work through the four steps: Basics (a title and optional instructions), Rewards & Verification (coins and photos), Schedule (one-off, daily or weekly, plus a date and time) and Reminders.
  3. Tap Submit Quest. It's active straight away, and your Warrior gets a "New quest from" notification with your nickname.

Check the coins. The coin reward starts at 5, which is £5, and a blank box also becomes 5. Change it before you submit if that's not what you want to pay.

More detail, including repeating quests and reminders: Issuing a quest.

Your home screen

Your home screen shows one Warrior at a time, with their nickname as the title. Along the top, from left to right:

Below that is a strip of days: today, the next 5 days, and MORE, which opens a calendar covering a year back and a year ahead. In the MORE calendar, days with quests have a dot. Each quest card shows a status badge, the coins and the XP. Cards have a pencil (edit) and a bin (delete), plus Validate Proof when proof is waiting and Review Change when your Warrior has asked to change the quest. A quest your Warrior has suggested shows only Review Proposal, with no pencil or bin. A repeating quest has a small repeat icon after its title. Tap a card to see its details, including how often it repeats; you can validate proof from there too.

The screen updates by itself when your Warrior does something. You can also pull down to refresh. Issue Quest is hidden when you're looking at a past day.

Your Warrior's level, XP and streak aren't on your home screen. Your Warrior sees them on their own home screen, and their level and XP totals in Warrior Records (the shield). To share how the week went with the people involved in their support, use the weekly activity summary.

More than one Warrior

You can link to as many Warriors as you like:

  1. Go to Settings → Account → Linked Accounts.
  2. Under Add Another Warrior:, type their code into Their Linking Code and tap Add.
  3. They approve, just like the first time.

One plan covers up to 6 Warriors: see Plans and billing. The app keeps showing the Warrior you already had selected. To see another Warrior, go to Settings → Switch Warrior (at the top) and pick them from Choose Your Warrior. Once you use My quests, these are called Switch and Choose who to see, and Me is on the list too. The app remembers your choice on this phone. The colours change to that Warrior's World.

Your own quests (My quests)

As a Strategist, you can use Torvan for yourself too. In Settings, tap Set up My quests and pick a World. After that, Switch at the top of Settings moves between Me and your Warriors. Your own quests work like Torvan on your own: tap + to add one, and Done when it's finished. Nobody you're linked with can see them, and there are no photos or coins. Reminders say "My quests", follow your quiet hours, and have their own switch in Settings. To stop, go to Settings → Account → My quests → Turn off My quests. Quests still to do are removed and repeating ones stop. Your level, XP and cards stay.

How My quests uses your data: see My quests in our Privacy Policy.

Duels, packs and Play Duels

Duels is the card game in Torvan. You can play it on your own account, against the computer, with your own collection.

Weekly activity summary (Share My Week)

Share My Week makes a Weekly activity summary: a clear PDF of the activities in your Warrior's week, set out day by day. It's written to share with the people involved in their support, such as family, a support worker or a care team. It has no coins, XP or anything from the game in it.

  1. Choose your Warrior in Settings → Switch Warrior (Switch once you use My quests), then tap Share My Week on the main Settings list. It isn't there on Me.
  2. Pick the week: This week, Last week or Earlier. Weeks run Monday to Sunday.
  3. You'll see every activity due that week, day by day, with its status: Done, Partly done, Waiting for sign-off, Not done or Still to do. Untick any you'd rather leave out. Activities still to do later in the week start unticked.
  4. Go through the activities one at a time. For each one, add the time spent and any notes. If you like, add how much support was needed: Independently, With a reminder, With some help or With full support. If an activity didn't happen, you can add a reason: Their choice today, Unwell or not up to it, Plans changed, Not needed or Other. All of these are optional, and you can skip any activity.
  5. Check everything on the review screen. You can add a summary of the week and a reference, such as a support plan number. Further down, if you want them, are In name's own words, Anything to flag to the support team and Add signature lines, which prints lines for a name, signature and date.
  6. Tap Create PDF, then Preview to check it or Share to send it.

Privacy

Older versions of the app make a simpler PDF of the past 7 days instead.

The Warrior's quiet hours, Privacy & Friends, Reminder Defaults, Balance History, Missed-quest penalty and Pots for [name] only appear once you've linked a Warrior and they're selected. Once your Warrior has savings pots, Balance History isn't shown: each pot's History in Pots for [name] takes its place. On Me, Reminder Defaults is for your own quests, and the Warrior-only rows aren't there. Older versions of the app call Privacy & Friends Friends & Duels, and don't have Missed-quest penalty. Plans can't be bought in the app yet: see Plans and billing.
